Image Presets for Your Photos

At this point, you already know my top 2 favorite ways to create imagery in your business, but there’s a 3rd option that can be a good fit if neither of those work for you right now:

We’ve talked about:

#1 - Custom-branded Imagery

#2 - Stock Imagery

Today, we’re talking about the third way to get photos for your business:

#3 - Purchasing image filters (aka Lightroom presets)

Using Presets to Up-Level Your Own Photos

In the age of smartphones that are far more powerful than point and shoot cameras from the old days, we often keep our phones closer to us than our family members. This also means it’s often our primary tool for capturing photos and video of our daily lives, as most of us don’t have a professional team following us around all day!

As a non-professionally trained photographer, my images aren’t always the best composed, so sometimes purchasing image filters (also known as presets) can add an extra boost to our personal imagery and make it usable for storytelling in our business.

Again, this is just one option available to create imagery. And by creating or purchasing pre-set filters, you can boost the brightness of your personal images while styling your images in an aesthetic that fits with your brand’s vibe to increase your brand trust and provide visual continuity. In turn, using Lightroom presets means you can blend your custom-branded imagery, stock photos, and personal photos with ease across your social media and blogging channels.

How to Find Your Preset Style

But with so many preset styles available for purchase, how do you find the right look for you?

Well, I created a short list of some popular image styles that can help narrow down your search to find a look that fits your brand’s vibe:

  • Light + Airy

  • Bright + Crisp

  • Film Inspired

  • East Coast Vibes - Generally a bit more New York  or city chic looks

  • West Coast Vibes - I call this the Pacific Northwest style

  • Dark + Moody

Within each image style, you’ll even find presets focused on highlighting different skin tones, food and beverage, products and/or landscapes. Knowing your brand’s image vibe and what types of photo content you’ll be creating, will help to hone in your google search results and make your photos look their best.
